On June 15, 1876, LTC George Armstrong Custer left the Powder River Supply Depot at the confluence with the Yellowstone River about 7 miles west of present day Terry, MT.  He had met with COL Reno and General Terry on board the Far West steamboat prior to departure.   LTC Custer left the Depot at 11:00 am while his band played music for the encouragement of his troops and their  next mission.  Ten days later the 7th Cavalry found itself in the Little Big Horn Valley and the rest is history.   The Far West heard news of the Battle in the Little Big Horn Valley.  It departed upstream to see how it could help out.  One wounded soldier was PVT Wm George.  As the Far West was coming back downstream headed for Bismarck ND, PVT George died.  The steamer stopped long enough to bury him at the Powder River Supply Depot.

So, on June 15th 2026 at 11:00 am, Gary L Gillett of The Missoula City Band came to Terry to honor the 150th passing of one of Custer's soldiers. The American Legion Post #32, the AL Auxiliary Unit #32 and the Prairie County Museum sponsored the event.  The Band also played patriotic songs commemorating The United States of America's 250th anniversary. The Missoula City Band played a number of the songs that Custer and his troops would have heard.  A new headstone was commemorated marking PVT Wm George's burial site.
