This an article written by American Legion Auxiliary President Dave George from the Terry Unit #32 and District #10 in their local newspaper. Nice job ALA Unit 32.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #32 in Terry held its bi-annual raffle in 2025. The
money raised from the sale of raffle tickets goes to support a variety of local veteran’s programs in the Glendive-Terry-Miles City area. This year we raised approximately $950 for the benefit of local veterans.
The first place prize was a beautifully handmade red, white and blue quilt crafted by
Jane Wolff of Terry, which was won by Les Thomason also of Terry. Second and third
prizes were handcrafted knives from local artisan Gary Huber. Each knife featured
unique details: brass grommets from retired flags that came from the American Legion flag ceremony, blades fashioned from recycled circular saw blades, and handles are made from purple heart wood sourced from trees in Central and South America. The leather sheaths were created using scrap leather from a Fallon, MT saddle maker. Donnie Gaub of Fallon and Barb Roach of Billings were the recipients of these one-of-a-kind pieces. The fourth prize was a Scentsy gift certificate from local vendor Wendy Scheid. Fran Fleckenstein of Terry won that generous prize.
ALA Unit#32 extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who purchased raffle tickets and
supported this year’s fundraising effort. Hope to see you all at our craft fair coming
November 1 and 2 at the American Legion Hall in Terry. Plus, ALA Unit #32 will be
providing treats at the Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11 at the Veterans Park
on main street of Terry. We also provide chili and snacks at the watch party for the
Army-Navy football game coming Dec 13 at the American Legion in Terry. All are welcome to attend these events, whether veteran or community supporter.
In addition to fund raising, ALA Unit #32 continues it’s outreach by assembling and
distribution toiletry kits packed inside a new pair of socks for our veterans in and around southeastern Montana.
