August Department Newsletter

Hello,

I hope everybody has had a good summer and surviving the heat. Hard to believe how fast this year is going, almost time for district meetings and fall conference.

Remember our fall conference is Oct 3rd in Helena, and we will have our meeting at Helena’s post 3095 Villard Ave.  The meeting will begin at 9am. I will provide more information as it becomes available.

I hope everybody is selling tickets for our fundraiser for ALA Girl State. Each unit needs to participate. This is a great program for girls to go to Helena and learn about our government. Gwen Marshall let me one of girls, Claire, was selected for Secretary of Agriculture.  Gwen is working on a press release about the girl’s nation delegates. So please do your part and sell, sell, sell. To help these girls learn and grow. Make sure to send checks, not cash, to Leona Somerfeld 550 15th lane NE Power, MT 59468, or if you need more tickets please call her 406-788-1967. All money and tickets need to be mailed no later than October 15th so Leona gets them in time for drawing.  A selling point for the ones that say they won’t float, let them know it would make a good Christmas present for the one person in their family or friend that would enjoy it.

I am looking for someone to take over Sandy Runkel's position at Fort Harrison. It would be nice to have someone that lives close to Helena, or someone that can spend time in Helena when the Christmas store is open. So, if you are interested, please let me know.

When I have the definite dates for ALA Girls State and State Convention in Harve, I will pass this along.

Remember we have a website. So please send photos or letters you would like to post for your unit to Candice Gehring at mtala.candice@gmail.com  and she will post them so everybody can see what a great job you have been doing.

I encourage you to get your poppy orders sent in now to Jeanette Bosen so she has time to get them made; these are time consuming. Also, mail order directly to Jeanette at Jeanette Bosen 406 1st ST SW Park City MT 59063. Or if you want to make them yourself, still send  the money to Jeanette and put a note that you would just like the kit and she will be more than happy to send you the kit.

Hope everybody has a great month

Jackie Gangstad

Dept President
