Unit 32 Flag Disposal Ceremony
Prairie Post #32 in Terry, part of the Powder River District #10, held a flag disposal ceremony at the Terry Public Schools on October 29th with the ALA Unit #32 assisting. The Post helped the 6th graders retire the school's old flag and replaced it with a new one. Members of the 4th, 5th, & 6th grades each carried a flag to the fire for disposal. The 7th grade did some readings on the meaning of the flag and its proper retirement disposal.
Following the Flag disposal ceremonies, the ashes were collected for burial out at the cemetery near the Veterans flag display area. The grommets from some of the flags are retained and repurposed for ALA Unit #32's biennial fundraising raffle in Terry, MT. A local knife maker incorporated the grommets into the purple heart wood handles of knives made from old saw blades. The leather sheath and key rings are made from scrap leather donated by a local saddle maker. The Unit #32 is also stamped into the leather as a local connection in the chance someone from out of the wins. The locally framed photo of President George W. Bush and Senator Ben Knight Horse Campbell, of Colorado, has a local connection, and will also be a part of this year's raffle.
